The BRAIN AI Ecosystem project of the Transport Group won the Grand Prix of the PTL Award 2025, the main prize of the Polish Logistics Society. The award-winning solution combines the living digital twin of the GT Logistics warehouse and the GT road network with an AI-based decision-making layer. Our project will represent Poland in the European ELA Award competition "European Logistics Project of the Year".
Reward for an implementation that works
The PTL Award is awarded by the jury of the Polish Logistics Society's competition. The first winner was selected in 1998, and among the winners are, m.in, NEUCA, Baltic Container Terminal, VITRONIC and Żabka.
The competition does not evaluate concepts or plans. The project must be implemented within the last two years and work in practice. The jury looks at innovation, economic, environmental and social effects, and whether the solution can be applied more widely.
"The PTL Grand Prix confirms that we have chosen a good direction: technology is to help people in everyday decisions. Now we will show this project in Europe, alongside the best implementations from other countries" - says Tomasz Macherowski, President of the Management Board of Grupa Transportowa.
One operation model, from cart to invoice
The first layer of the project is a digital twin of the central GT Logistics warehouse in Piotrków Trybunalski.
UWB tags on all ten forklifts transmit their position approximately every second. AI trained on the movement of this hall evaluates each ride and recognizes receipts, picking, packing and releases without integration with the WMS.
"The first question was: where is the operation wasting time and money and no one noticing. The digital twin showed that in a matter of weeks. BRAIN gave those answers to everyone at GT who makes decisions"
Rafał Łuczak, Executive Advisor for Innovation and Digital Strategy
The second layer is a twin of the Harmony road network, provided by Arendai. For each order, it compares the planned route, the actual one with GPS and the optimal one for the truck. It also suggests which vehicle should take the next load to shorten the empty mileage.
The third layer is BRAIN from TechMinds Revolution. It combines data from TMS, ERP, telematics, Microsoft 365 and the twin. A GT employee asks a question in plain language and gets an answer based on company data.
"Logistics companies have a lot of data, but it's scattered across systems and enclosed in reports. BRAIN reaches for it on demand, within the limits of each user's permissions, and never trains AI models on them. For a company like GT, it's a prerequisite for using AI on real business data."
explains Szymon Pulka, CTO of TechMinds Revolution.
What the project has already shown
In the first 30 days, AI evaluated 80,128 trolley journeys in the warehouse. Approximately every seventh of them, a total of 11,635, deviated from the norm. There was no trace of any of these journeys in the WMS, because the system records the completed order, but not the road that led to it.
The twin only tracks equipment and processes, so the causes of delays are sought in the organization of work. The second warehouse will GT Logistics work with it from day one. In the first year,
the ecosystem brought GT companies a total of PLN 640,000 in savings. According to GT's calculations, the investment of PLN 1.5 million paid for itself in eight months.
In accounting, automation increased efficiency by 34%. At the same time, the number of full-time positions in the team increased by 16%, without any layoffs.
Project partners
Grupa Transportowa shares the operation and data, and tests new tools in their daily work. TechMinds Revolution from Łódź builds BRAIN. Arendai, a company with offices in San Diego, Łódź and Wrocław, develops Harmony. Scientists from the Lodz University of Technology are conducting research and verification of the results.
"We described the hall and the GT road network with one model, and the team received the first conclusions even before the WMS was connected. We are pleased that PTL has awarded an implementation that works in everyday operation" - says Walter J. Buga, CEO of Arendai.
Next stage: Vienna
ELA does not accept applications directly from companies. Each national association belonging to the European Logistics Association submits its project of the year. In Poland, it is selected by PTL, a member of ELA since 1993.
The six best projects will be presented in Vienna on February 24-25, 2027. There, the jury will announce the European Logistics Project of the Year and the gala guests will choose the best presentation.
In the previous edition, 6 of the 13 submitted projects made it to the finals, including the BMW Group from the Steyr plant. The winner was DACHSER from Fraunhofer IML for the digital twin of the transshipment terminals, i.e. a solution from the same family of technologies as the GT project.
In 2024, the audience award for the best presentation was won by Żabka, also submitted by PTL.
